SGS – Toronto

Captain: Nicolas Edwards & Lucy Chu

Team Name Story:
Our first year together we were taking suggestions from friends, and one suggested Shooters Gotta Shoot, which was fitting given that in our early days we had a lot of one throw points. We shortened it to SGS to keep it simple (which ended up confusing some university players who thought SGS stood for School of Graduate Studies). With the 4v4 field being so much smaller than a regular ultimate field, and of course since there’s no wind, everyone can be a shooter.

Players Story:
When we first started the team, we used SGS and the 4v4 circuit as an opportunity to play with friends from different touring teams that we wouldn’t regularly play with. We’ve had a bit of turnover since our first season (only 3 OGs from year one, excluding captains), but it’s always a great time seeing new friends and old and getting some reps in. In the early days, our IR kept stats with pen and paper, with each player vying to get the most “style points” for cool plays (which were assigned at the sole discretion of the IR…totally fair and unbiased). Then SGS decided to join the 21st century and track stats on an app, but unfortunately the app doesn’t have a category for style points. Now, SGS is just a group of friends looking to have fun and roast whoever had the most throwaways that tournament.

SGS established in the inaugural RRI season in 2017, and brings a lot of heart, passion, and fun to the Ontario 4v4 Circuit. They are a team of experienced club players that come together consistently at the 4v4 Circuit to show off their chemistry, throws, and good nature.
