Melt – Hamilton

Captains: Michael Abrametz (Linc), Molly Kojder, Stephanie Hall

What is the origin story behind your team name?

Melt is typically something you’d call for outdoor ultimate when playing a zone for 7’s but rarely something you’d hear for a 4/4 format as playing a zone is typically not very effective in such a small space. We thought Melt was funny and it kind of stuck to the point where all of our plays are ‘things that melt’ like a popsicle or ‘melty things’ like a Grilled Cheese. Our cheers relate to melt and of course our jerseys so we try to have fun with it.

How do the players all know each other?

I think all Ultimate teams get created with a group of friends wanting to play together either for fun or competitively and Melt is no different. The team was formed in 2019 in the HUC Winter 4/4 League and for the most part was a combination of friends from two existing teams in the league #SaladTheCat and Better Call Stall. This made up 7/10 members of the team and we rounded out the remaining team with some other friends we’d played with before. We were lucky enough to qualify for Nationals that year and decided to not only keep the team going but build the roster out to 12 total players to make sure we had legs at some of the major tournaments. We are a team that thrives on chemistry and ultimately (pun intended) really enjoy playing together and hope to continue to do so in the future. Melt is looking forward to UC introducing a masters division in the future as 90% of the team would be able to play at this point…we might have to rebrand to melted.

Melt is another established team in the 4v4 Club Division, coming together in 2018. They bring dime hammers, great jerseys, fun cheers, and a deep love for the game for driving from Hamilton many Saturday mornings to compete. We love to see teams like Melt forge an identity through many playing opportunities like in O4UC.
